What value is there for a syntax error to include the term "token" in it's message? Is there an expectation that users are familiar with parsing concepts? Seems pretty ridiculous.

Thank you. I feel like OP wants a lot in a world of trade offs. As long as the error message is searchable on SO ;)
In this thread I’ve literally talked about how it’s not hard to change these error messages. I maintained the Babel parser for years, I can speak from experience.
