What value is there for a syntax error to include the term "token" in it's message? Is there an expectation that users are familiar with parsing concepts? Seems pretty ridiculous.

Someone once asked me if their computer called the police, because it said an "illegal operation" had taken place. What a terrible error message.

It's a computer-sciency terminology: https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/formal_parameter … vs https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/actual_parameter …. The main Wikipedia calls them "a parameter or a formal argument" which adds more confusion. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parameter_(computer_programming) … Naming things is hard.

I think the prevalence of these kinds of errors comes from the use of parser-generators and related tooling that don't have the context to provide a better message in the engine. (One can and should wrap them, but the lazy route results in what we see...)
