To clarify. I don't want anything automated. I literally want to proof read a large project.

Do you mean auditing in case they are using security keys, insecure packages, etc? At Microsoft they have bots that does that at every PR (DevOps)
-
Auditing as in: I'm going to be working on a new codebase and want to understand every single thing about it. Basically proof reading.

"I want to understand every single thing about [a codebase]." We built
@srcgraph for this. Have you tried it? Example: https://sourcegraph.com/github.com/sebmck/flow@master/-/blob/packages/flow-dev-tools/src/convert/convertRunner.js#L22:8&tab=references …pic.twitter.com/ExBwJMFhIg

I literally wrote https://github.com/boyter/scc to assist with this so it can tell me where to most complex code is.

Sonarqube is good for this too but costs a lot. Ripgrep is also good for code spelunking.

What you need is
@srcgraph ! It's becoming a game changer in many companies and being specifically praised by new employees who need to get familiar with the code base ASAP. It's OSS too!

Might this help? Allows you to add notes and visualise the dependencies in the code. :)https://github.com/Bogdan-Lyashenko/codecrumbs …

This book might have some good techniques for identifying the most important areas to look at: https://pragprog.com/book/atcrime/your-code-as-a-crime-scene …
