If you had to install an npm package by URL, instead of by registry name, would you mind? eg. $ npm install https://website.com/package.tgz $ yarn add https://website.com/package.tgz

Why create a solution that is not better than the existing one. Typing the babe of the package is the easiest solution, et are you complicating it. What prompted you to think in this direction?
I'm not complicating anything. You can already do this in npm and Yarn, along with a bunch of other stuff you'd be surprised by.
