Which part do you dislike the most?
JS grammar is pretty complex. There's a lot of context-dependent grammar and it makes it hard to reason about. More specifically, in order to get good performance you have to write some pretty esoteric code.

My advice is to do one pre-pass through the text, and remove much of the context dependent logic. We had to do some similar tricks on Reason which has similar syntax, but it was especially important because we were using actual grammar based parser generators which are very picky

For example, getting the boundaries of the start and end of arrow functions, so that you immediately know that the left paren belongs to an arrow function when it is encountered.
