React doesn’t include enough out of the box, and the lack of any official sanctioned recommendations increases ecosystem fragmentation and actively harms the ecosystem.

It’s seemingly unpopular among the React team

Not really. I think we agree with this. However we also believe that you can’t deliver a whole solution if you don’t actively use it. A model that seems to work is promoting full-box setups like Next.js and Gatsby and working closely with them.

I think there's an implicit assumption here: that one company makes/uses a solution and that company needs to use all of it. A less single-company-centric view of core development lets people work on what they need and share the rest.

This article from DHH back when Merb (the project I maintained that competed with Rails) merged into Rails is a good explanation of the philosophy I adhere to. https://dhh.dk/posts/36-work-on-what-you-use-and-share-the-rest …

A lot of my foundational values, and the ones I brought to
@emberjs, were forged in that collaboration with@dhh. Things are not as zero-sum as we think. Avoiding single-company-centric development is key to allowing these collaborations and richer shared solutions to form.1 reply 1 retweet 34 likes
Also reduces the bus factor. Same with having multiple contributors, multiple companies help. Companies can change priorities, shift focus, have reorgs etc, especially larger ones. Company commitment isn't always forever.

Ironically, company commitment lasts longer if a company isn't the only contributor. There's more of a sense of responsibility and respect for other significant contributors, which aligns the company's long-term goals for the project more closely with the ecosystem's.
