Maybe by using Node.js Workers you'd see a difference? Might be better than full cluster mode
I'm just using child_process.fork() for workers which offers an IPC channel, although I believe it does use JSON under the hood I have actually looked into worker_threads but ran into a roadblock that I can't remember haha, perf hasn't been an issue so far.
