Pi Day is terrible because it’s an annual reminder that Americans use the MM/DD format. It’s uniquely an “international” American holiday. The date format is almost as worse as the choice to use Fahrenheit but not quite.

Pi Day is officially recognised by the US Government. United States, Philippines, Micronesia, and Marshall Islands didn’t have quite the same ring to it.
I just through the full list of countries using it and they were either: 1. Colonized or influenced by the US 2. Only use it for English, obvious US influence 3. Are a US associated/unincorporated state Unique was the wrong word, but the US is the reason it's used today.

I was referring to countries using either YMD, MDY or use either of those format in certain cases which is a large portion of the world (including Sweden which has also started seeing an up-tick in celebrating Pi-day).

That's probably mostly due to ISO 8601 but if you limit to the short form of only including month and day (M/D), maybe it's less common.
