The biggest thing motivating me to learn more about cars is so that my mechanic can stop fucking me over with random charges whenever there’s a problem

I say this after having a major maintenance done a week ago, and now being back at the mechanic after the engine started misfiring from a bad part that should have been checked before. Love having my time (and money) wasted

Buy electric and your part count decreases by several orders of magnitude

An electric car costs double the total amount of my current car and all the maintenance costs combined. Maybe when the prices go down.

Nice! 84 mile range makes it a non-starter though, I’d lose 25% of the battery just driving to the office and back.

That’s why you charge at work (for free) and plug it in at home every night (and never take your car to a gas station ever again).

Full charge every single morning and every evening when you leave the office.

If it’s just a commuter car that doesn’t have a much farther range, what are the upsides compared to shuttles? Just flexibility?

Every time I get to the office it's extremely hard to find a parking spot (and the EV spots are filled with Valet). I don't think it would actually add any flexibility. No carpool lane on the Dumbarton Bridge either.

In the past 12 months since getting my car I've driven to LA x 3, Sacramento, Vegas etc... Not super practical for me. Even just driving to SF I'd need to charge the battery before driving home which rules out any effective Bay Area transport.

Yeah, I get long-range electric, and short-range if you have no other commute options. Don’t understand short-range if shuttles are available, unless you’re super far from any stops
