The biggest thing motivating me to learn more about cars is so that my mechanic can stop fucking me over with random charges whenever there’s a problem

Buy electric and your part count decreases by several orders of magnitude

An electric car costs double the total amount of my current car and all the maintenance costs combined. Maybe when the prices go down.

Maybe, just maybe... Buy one that does not break every week?

All of my problems have been related to maintenance. It's a 4 year old car with 78,000 miles (125,000 km). I only had to get the ignition coils replaced because it was causing a misfire. Nothing out of the ordinary. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I always just try to come off as knowing wtf I'm talking about when dealing with mechanics even though I very much don't. I've only ever repaired small engines.
-
I try this strategy too, but based on my experience working at the Genius Bar, it's probably obvious within seconds that I have no idea what I'm talking about and I come across as an even bigger dumbass.

Diagnosing misfire can be a pain. Need good tools. 1) fuel system 2) ignitions 3) even vac leaks 4) engine failure like compression 5)modern cars have so many sensors. Need a real time OBD2 diagnostic tool instead of throwing parts.

That's why I wanted a service agreement so bad on my car. Whenever there's something not working properly, I drop it at a dealership and let them fix all the things (thankfully, not happening too often)

I still loose a lot of money tho... but that's because I am addicted to putting carbon all over xd
