I agree. But do you envision a TypeScript alternative to take a different tack on typing (eg nominal vs structural), or just leverage typings but be a different language (like some sort of TypedCoffeeScript)?

Could do either. I don't think the types need to be 100% lossless, they should just represent the closest equivalent in the alt type system. As long as they're consistent then it seems fine.

My IDE uses .d.ts definitions wherever possible even if not using TS in app code. But isn’t the answer to re-invent JS for types natively?
