Afair O1 is also doable w/o academic degree. "just" requires exeptional contributions or very public "expert" persona Friend of mine went on sort of a conference tour to have enough "expert credibility" in this process

no idea - lawyers good in BSing i guess friend of mine listed all open source, plus which companies used it, when this didnt felt enough he added (small) meetups he organised and facebook groups he admins

Lawyers are good at bullshitting but they can't invent evidence. USCIS can be pretty strict, and it's common to get a request for additional evidence unless your case was strong enough in the beginning.
