@yarnpkg users: do you ever actually use the "offline cache" at all?

It exists to decrease pressure on source control when you have tens of thousands of files. Offline mirror is just tarballs for that reason.

Yeah it does but if you have a large enough codebase then you'll have a lot of deps, whenever you upgrade them then they still need to hang around in the source control history. At FB there's a single Yarn "offline cache" per monorepo that contains everything for all projects.
