So if you were using something like acorn to parse javascript... what tool would you then use to transpile it into a target source text?

What do you want to do? Take an AST then generate the source code? Transpile confuses me, do you want to also transpile the AST?

Babel has it's own code generator https://github.com/babel/babel/tree/master/packages/babel-generator … You need to use the Babel parser. Stick to a single toolchain if you want a reliable experience. Too many AST differences to mix and match random tools with varying levels of completeness.
