Good news about this change is that now it's really easy to write crawler to get the current amount of paid GitHub members. You can then use that to calculate revenue from paid users. You could then run the same crawler in a few days to see how many people actually downgrade.
Why do you want to disable this? (Just interested)
I don't feel comfortable with flaunting the fact I paid for a GitHub plan. How is someone supposed to feel that can't afford to pay for a plan? It's essentially income segregation. It's extremely blatant across your profile and tooltip, and it feels gross.
