After spending hours trying to get certbot and Let's Encrypt to work, and messing with Python dependency hell, I'm ready to just call it a day and buy a cheap SSL cert.

That's not the spirit! If you're self-hosting to learn, you must embrace the demons! It may take DAYS before you manage to summon your own SSL certificate, but it will be yours dammit, forged from the bytes of your own sweat and tears.
