I don't think I've ever seen a badge in a GitHub README that was actually useful.

Anecdote: I used to love "collecting" badges for my projects' READMEs for no actual reason. Also loved adding top level dot files which I now avoid like the plague.

Agreed — builds should be passing for something to be merged to main branch, which makes a build status in the readme useless tbh. Similarly, code coverage is only really useful at the pr level
