I agree, it would be hard to cover all bases though
For most syntax errors, I've found that you can generally provide hints for what the developer might have meant.

The hard part is making the hints generic enough, and wording them in such a way that doesn't lead the developer to waste time if it's not actually the problem.

Ability to surface the “original” and/or generic error would solve that. “Here’s what I think a good hint is, but, if that’s not helpful then here is what the original error was.”
