Really? But in many cases "first" wouldn't mean "1st", it'd mean "0th". Feels more ambiguous than [0].

Let's just allow English-spelled numbers, then you can do arr[num`zero`]

Would arr[num`nought`] work? Or would it be the American spelling naught? So much bikeshed potential.

Exactly this is my argument for first because outside of being pedantic or snipy we typically describe the zero indexed item in any ordered collection as the "first" item/element.

So .first is the lowest positive integer indexed item in the array? Not the 1st item. Not the first item set in the array.
