To clarify about Yarns relation to Facebook: Yarn is a community RFC driven project with many core members who are not FB employees. Yarn development was started by me at FB, but I made the deliberate choice very early on that we should open source it.
That open source decision was driven by my discussions with dozens of community members who wanted this. The repo was shared with the Angular, Ember, React and Polymer teams before the project was even called Yarn.
