Seems like the org structure is bad if two teams can independently work on competing projects, bad utilization of resources.

The internal product competition only happens with really contested and competitive markets like music streaming, chat apps etc where ther are significant external players already.

I think taking a "market approach" while a wasteful of resources could have better chances at finding a winner. Apple did that with the Mac vs Lisa, the Mac was a startup within Apple sectioned off and people that worked there saw themselves in competition with the Lisa.
