I don't get why @PrettierCode is still controversial in some places. I've worked at a wide variety of places before FB, and within FB, and it would be hugely beneficial at all and with little downside. If you don't, why not?

3. Some organisations have coding guidelines in wikis that were fought out by their engineers over many years. It can be difficult to convince people to drop this because it makes it seem like wasted effort by 'the team' and because people worry about causing upset to others.

Yeah, people have trouble letting go of whatever they decided was the 'right' way. A team I used to work with wouldn't consider it because they couldn't let go of leading commas. Style comments littered their PR's. Frustrating to watch as someone who consumed their work.
