This is a very good idea. However, what I'd really like to know is when you should pay more and when more money equals 'gold-plating'.

Frequently expensive products are not worth it. But sometimes the cheaper version is a lemon and lowers opinion of the whole category.

Realised this when I upgraded a NAS and the upgrade was substantially better (near Spotify quality services, etc.)
