It's a fact that the organisers were tweeted that Crockford was an inappropriate choice. Seems clear that they were influenced.

It could be coincidence that they made the choice of course. Though I think it's rare for decisions to be made that way.

Are you "being influenced" if you talk to someone and change an opinion? Does it stop being your opinion? Should we disrespect it?

Yes. Influencing someone is changing their opinion. Good or bad it does not give others the right to vindictive behaviour.

Which is exactly my point. "Punishing" people who complained is the worst possible course of action here.

I didn't disagree with that at all. I just disagree that there was/is no influence. I think there are better ways forward.

I don't see anything wrong with "influence". Is never changing your opinion a virtue of some kind?

You're arguing against something I didn't intend to express. You said "organisers make the call". I said "not in a vacuum."

Instead of getting angry and hurting others people should setup policies that they're happy with. E.g.https://twitter.com/lambda_conf/status/772471890694709249 …

For the record I don't think never changing opinions is a virtue. But it might be a virtue to not call strangers close-minded.
