Yes, but that represents 45% of total votes cast. Such is the vagary of FPTP. The majority of voters - 55% - in Scotland are represented by 19% of the MPs. Our voices are drowned out.

By the same token, neither does Boris... if PR was in use for this election, he wouldn’t have a majority...

But the difference is he does not conflate the tory party with the uk like she does the snp with Scotland. She says Scotland, she is really talking about the snp, and it angers unionists here how she disregards us at every turn.

Sorry but what are you on about? Who else elected them if not Scotland, they only stood in Scottish seats

And while you’re at it, explain the previous wins in local and Scottish elections. Did the Scots not choose them there too?1 reply 0 retweets 4 likes -

His point is that under proportional representation the SNP loses almost half of their seats. It's not certain that Scotland will vote for independence in a second referendum. But I hear that they might be given this opportunity yet again after their next elections in 2021.

By the same logic, Boris loses his mandate for Brexit cos under PR there is no Tory majority. You can’t claim a mandate for one but not the other.

I'm not saying that we should change the system, I'm saying that my understanding is that referendums already don't use FPTP so you always need over 50% of the votes.

If course you dont want to change the system as the snp wouldn't be able to hold most of the seats with less than half the vote.

I don't have any position on changing the system. I was just describing how things are, as they relate to on-the-ground political practicalities of achieving any change.
