If there is a speaker at a conference you disagree with, don’t go to their talk. Or, better yet, listen to their talk to see if your disagreement is real and rational. The solution to bad speech is more speech.

I think you're right in the majority of cases. But it's not black and white. In rare cases, speech is highly caustic and ruins spaces.

The problem is that there needs to be nuance but we aren't able to negotiate it. So we have people being banned for being slightly conservative in tech (or just signaling this). And we have people with Voltaire-like principles that would defend literal hate speech.

They're not equally bad, but they are both bad. And having two groups of people that religiously believe both at each other's throats does seem like the worst outcome.
