If there is a speaker at a conference you disagree with, don’t go to their talk. Or, better yet, listen to their talk to see if your disagreement is real and rational. The solution to bad speech is more speech.

The problem is that there needs to be nuance but we aren't able to negotiate it. So we have people being banned for being slightly conservative in tech (or just signaling this). And we have people with Voltaire-like principles that would defend literal hate speech.

I know someone who regularly uses hate speech and hate tactics against a class of people: (older white men). This person also gives very insightful technical talks. I would not ban them from tech conferences. I would happily debate them instead.
