The “hardcore coder” trope is mostly harmful to people who don’t fit it — and get unfairly dismissed or passed for promotion. But it also hurts people who match it. They get comfortable behind a lazy stereotype and stop growing. They don’t realize how much they’re missing out.
I'm not annoyed by the idea that some people have more raw talent or better experience, I'm annoyed at the idea that they must be antisocial or socially incompetent. I think that's an exception. Many people that are excellent at programming are also good team members.
