A lot of people immediately self-deprecate in response to questions like this. "No, I'm *just* a nurse."

totally off topic now... i feel like if the end goal is to find out what someone does, then kindly ask what they do. like "hey do you work at a hospital? what do you do?" :) framing questions differently is an art in itself. i struggle with this often

Why not just ask what they do there? It's not making guesses about what they do, and still carries on the conversation.
