I said the totality of claims he made under oath about his drinking, which include that he didn't black out, pass out, have memory lapses or become aggressive, 99.99%+ for sure include lies. I stand 100% behind that assessment.https://twitter.com/jpodhoretz/status/1046906804075188224 …

Nate Silver just said in his podcast that K saying he never passed out while drinking is 99.99 % likely a lie. Really?

I have no way of judging this man, however are you claiming that he's lying about this because it seems unrealistic to you? I don't think it's true that *everybody* drinks to the point of passing out. I also think that many are without serious memory lapses or anger problems.

Multiple college friends have said that he often drank to excess. No one is saying "everybody" does it, so he must have done it. They're saying he, specifically, often drank to excess, and there are multiple witnesses who corroborate.

Drinking to excess does not mean drinking until you black-out. The idea that one necessarily implies the other is a huge presumption on your part. Almost everybody at my University drank to excess, very few blacked-out from it.

I think I do. It means 'continuing to function but with significant loss of memory'.

I drank a lot when young. Never blacked out. Never was aggressive. Never “passed out” in the sense that I just keeled over where I was standing, from drinking too much.

I think we are talking about "memory blackout". Someone experiencing that will not fall down unconscious, but will stumble about, misjudge distances, and slur their words (because cerebellum is failing). The hippocampi go with it and at that point memory uploading will cease.

@senindua: Respectfully, “Black out” does not mean pass out. It refers to a period of memory loss, while inebriated One may show no outward sign. It’s correlated w slurred speech & stumbling. Several reports of Kavanaugh’s HS & college drinking imply likelihood of “black out.”

One can draw that conclusion. When anyone drink to excess, they can expect the brain to react with shutting down, in order to handle the stress of alcohol.
