I’ve begun to realise that I feel disgust, generally, much less than most people. It strongly affects how I see the world compared to others. I have extremely high openness and am willing to consider lots of things and ideas that others reject out of hand for disgust reasons.

I really enjoyed
@sentientist’s talk on why disgust is a useless emotion when I saw it in 2016, but it’s only recently sunk in that it’s one of the key reasons that I often disagree with others. (Contrarianism is another, but I’m not sure which way the causation runs there.)5 replies 1 retweet 40 likesShow this thread -
It’s a very helpful prism for me. I get frustrated much less if I can understand that disgust is a reason people aren’t seeing what seems to me to be an obvious chain of reasoning. It’s condescending to them, which is a pity, but it helps me avoid getting annoyed which is good.

Good but on the other hand, I disagree with the notion of useless emotions. Overactive emotions are definitely a burden when trying to be reasonable, but these can sometimes help to motivate or co-ordinate people.
