Not to mention his commitment to eugenics which obviously fits very well with his commitment to education. Er...

He never supported Eugenics. His piece was a realistic take on the future of genetic engineering and the class divide completely in line with mainstream bioethics. If you don’t understand what you’re reading then don’t comment.

"I called this “progressive eugenics,” which in retrospect was clearly a mistake. It was more like the opposite of eugenics". So much so that he called it "eugenics".

“It was the opposite of Eugenics” You even left that in there. Do you even understand what the piece said? Can you explain it? Not quote it, explain it.

Hypothetically, were it possible, he's advocating it. Not at all a slippery slope you feel?

And by the way, eugenics is the word HE used and its definition is "the science of improving a population by controlled breeding". Tell me that isn't what he was advocating.

You're missing the point. When the technology to genetically raise intelligence is created, it will give countries that decide to use it (China, etc) a strong competitive advantage. The government's position will be forced by public demand to change if we're not competitive.

With or without policy changes, wealthy British people will travel to countries that allow the procedure to genetically improve their progeny. If the children of rich people were smarter, stronger and more attractive it would dramatically increase inequality.

At this point, you either provide the treatment as a health service or you let non-wealthy people fall into irrelevance and poverty.

It might seem like sci-fi but it could plausibly happen in our lifetimes.
