Inspired by a popular Mexican decorative art form papel picado, a new decorative crosswalk was installed by our crews over the weekend! Keep an eye out for this crosswalk on the North side of 8th Ave S & S Cloverdale St in South Park!
Fresh out of the SDOT Sign Shop! We're installing this sign on southbound 1st Ave S for the entrance ramp towards West Seattle.

We completed our load testing process on the #WestSeattleBridge! Only 4 DAYS until we reopen the bridge to the public on September 18!
Oopsy — we need to tell our sign maker that this street isn't closed. It's OPEN to people walking, rolling, biking, eating, dancing, playing, sightseeing, basking in the sun, seizing the day, enjoying time with friends & family, living it up, finding joy & celebrating existence.

Construction is completed and the westward half of the block is now closed to vehicles
Block by block, #SeattleCleanCity continues to improve accessibility, health, and livability in our city. We know there's still more to do, but after last week there's 150,000 less pounds of garbage in our streets, sidewalks, and parks.

Our cafe streets are here to stay!
Influenced by successes during the pandemic, we’ve updated our permits for outdoor dining, merchandise displays, vending & other street & sidewalk closures. Learn more about the change:
Amsterdam has been removing car parking (10,000 spots!), opting for bike space instead. The result? A beautiful and lively city.
The West Seattle Bridge is expected to reopen on Sept. 18!!! The bridge is stronger and safer now that we repaired cracking and added nearly 60 miles of steel cable “backbone” to the bridge. More info on our blog: sdotblog.seattle.gov/2022/08/11/wes (1)
We’re adding No Turn on Red restrictions in more places, starting with 40+ downtown intersections. This reduces conflict between people in cars & people walking/rolling. These enhancements support #VisionZero & improve safety for everyone.
Aurora Ave N is a repercussion of a time when roads were built without considering the needs of people outside of cars. We can do better. Join us at community workshops to share your ideas to reimagine Aurora Ave N as a place Seattle can be proud of. sdotblog.seattle.gov/2023/05/12/aur

Starting Sept. 16, our colleague, Seattle’s Traffic Engineer, and SDOT mission torch bearer, , P.E. embarks in his new role as the Director of the Traffic Operations Division for .
4th Ave now has a 2-way protected bike lane from Belltown to Pioneer Square! SDOT staff who worked on this celebrated with a ride, scoot, and walk along the new route.
Vice President Kamala Harris is visiting Seattle today & tomorrow (10/25-10/26). Under federal law, Secret Service has the authority to close roads and freeways. Expect possible travel delays for people driving and for some bus routes.
More info:
Best way to get through #SeattleSqueeze is not to drive, but if you must use a car please be fill it up first. Cause our streets can't bear a lane being blocked when you run out of gas in the middle of the road like the car at 4th Ave & Spring St this morning #YouKnowWhoYouAre
No matter how good a driver you think you are, you just can't be too careful around ice.

On hot days like today, our crews proactively spray down our steel movable bridges to help keep them cool! This is necessary because the high temperatures can cause the steel to expand and potentially create problems for opening and closing functions. 💦🥵 (1/3)

Broomer’s goal is to make riding a bicycle a comfortable and integral part of daily life for Seattleites of all ages and abilities all year round.
We want to pour out our love💕& appreciation🙌to our Crews who have been working around the clock to keep roads accessible for those who had to travel, emergency vehicles, & transit. Here are a few pics of our SDOT Ped Crew helping to remove ice at dialysis centers.

My daddy said I could do one last tweet for #TakeYourKidToWorkDay. Today I learned a way to make there be less traffic. There are traffic jams because cars take up a lot of room. So if more people take the bus, we'll all get home faster. It even worked with my legos.

We're replacing A-frame signs on #StayHealthyStreets w/ sturdier ones less susceptible to winter weather & movement. Larger barricades near busy intersections, smaller barrel w/ a sign at all other locations. 85 locations w/ larger barriers are planned throughout city.

With the installation of barriers, signs, & markings, the West Marginal Way protected bike lane is nearly complete! It's open & on its way to being safer, more convenient, & comfortable for everyone walking, biking, & rolling. Each improvement gets us closer to #VisionZero goals.
I-5 express lanes will close all weekend starting at 9pm tonight and not re-opening until Monday. The reason? Delivering pieces of Northgate ped/bike bridge. As you can see by below pics, the scale of these bridge spans are massive!
We’re adapting to the new “norm” and not only are we expanding the number of Stay Healthy Streets but we're making some permanent!

We hear you and agree that emergency bus lanes are necessary. Our crews will install a westbound bus lane on NE Campus Parkway tomorrow that will be in effect 24/7 during the closure.
You can count on us to clear major roads, but we can’t be everywhere. It's everyone’s responsibility to clear ice & snow from sidewalks around homes & businesses to keep people safe. It’s not just the law; it’s the right thing to do. Thank you for helping us manage #wasnow.
We're bristling with excitement that Broomer is out of the shop and is making a sweeping statement TODAY in Pike/Pine, one leaf at a time! Huge thanks to volunteers for removing leaves from bike lanes while Broomer was being repaired!
Goodbye old friend. Demo work has begun on the viaduct. At First & Railroad. #SeattleSqueeze #Realign99
This morning SDOT was able to remove ten concrete barriers around the 10th and Pine area to allow for increased street access. The work occurred initially without incident. As more crowds gathered, crews departed around 9:45 AM.

Our Director Sam Zimbabwe is reading "Right of Way" by , an in-depth look at how built environments can perpetuate inequities which relates our #VisionZero work to eliminate traffic fatalities.
We're going to build concrete buffers around the 4th Ave protected bike lanes from Jefferson St to Vine St (1.3 miles). Construction of the #EvenBetterBikeLanes upgrades starts within the next year. Thank you for showing why these upgrades are so important .
