My iCloud Photo Library is now so big that metadata/thumbnails can't be loaded onto a 16GB iOS. Has to be disabled

@searls@olivierlacan how? I have 64gb phone and my iCloud Photo Library (optimized) 15,000 pics is only 5gb used. -
@thebuffington@olivierlacan b/c my library is 4 times the size of yours, the thumbs/metadata takes 2.5 times the space.

@searls on android you can hit a button to "clear cache". Maybe iOS has it too? -
@ngauthier some apps have individual deleteable caches, but this isn't that. this is close to the minimal manifest of my 200GB photo lib - View other replies

@searls ah dang. The google photos app uses the android cache for thumbnails, so it's auto recycled and manually clearable

@searls it's almost as if the iOS developers knew this to entice you to buy the 64GB devices instead -
@jbogard I don't think there's any malice. I think they just don't use 16GB (or 8GB!) devices themselves. Just like they have good signal. -
@searls nah of course. our one 16GB iOS device still around is strug-g-g-g-gling. dont even have space to download iOS updates
