Google announcing their AI offering this Wednesday (Feb 8th)
It's going to be fascinating to see how they've thought about integrating chat & search without hurting Adwords

OpenAI pulled off the greatest digital robbery of all time
Casually took everyones content
And now will start to replace those websites with ChatGPT
The problem is this kills the incentive for people to publish content, submit answers

What are people using it for?
Here’s a clue:
for every ~50 visits to chatGPT there seems to be 1 less visit to stackOverflow

AI is going to help the rich get richer
Companies with large data sets, lots of distribution will benefit most
I still think we see some incredible AI startups get traction
But, most of the benefits will be built into existing platforms

This chart is bananas
It’s speaks to how broken politics is
You only get elected by giving away stuff to your base and never have to reconcile how it’s actually paid for

I'm really bad at knowing how to pronounce names
I started a doc where I store the phonetic pronunciation for people I meet
This should be a feature in CRMs

Here's a crazy way to run your business
I've been with for years
I noticed on their website they offer the package I pay €112 monthly for, to new customers for €69
I ring them, ask for it, they say no & tell me to switch to different provider if I want cheaper

OpenAI will compete as a backend and frontend company
They have a giant advantage with frontend tools because they can go-to-market through freemium
They'll be able to absorb cost of free
ChatGPT is an incredible example of that
Competitors can't do the same

ChatGPT Pro at $42 will target business users
A missing piece for these users are templates
I can see ChatGPT building a Canva style prompt + template marketplace - some available in free plan, others for pro only
That would game changing for growth

ChatGPT releases a pro version for $42
I bet a lot of companies built on GPT expecting OpenAI to remain a backend company

People find facts to justify how they're feeling, we're emotion-led
That's why marketing is so powerful
Once you win the narrative and make customers feel something for your brand, they'll seek out facts to justify how they're feeling

Titles aren't important
What's important is access. Are you in the room when the hard decisions are getting made? Do you have a voice in those decisions?
That's how you grow
Titles mostly give you access, but not always

I've always broken my career into 2-year segments
I look at something and ask if I'd dedicate 2 years of my life to it and if I'll be All-in on solving the problems
2 years works because great work takes time and short enough timeframe to create urgency
I do this every 2 years

Work / Life balance is a dumb way to look at things
What matters is who manages your time
How much of it are you free to manage vs. how much of it is being managed by others?
It's freedom over time that most people want

AI is getting so good at personalising emails, the best-performing email in the future will be the one that's cold and direct
AI Email - "Hey Kieran, love your podcast, oh you went to university at X, love that team"
Direct Email - "Kieran, you wanna buy my shit or what?"

That's equivalent to one stalk of celery

$60k to make the film, $500k for marketing and it grossed $248.6 million worldwide
They used fake documentaries, websites and even a fake 1-800 number you could ring to learn more about the Blair Witch legend
Marketing = $$

ChatGPT will eventually add citations for websites it's pulling info from
I don't think it will help publishers
Google's featured snippets caused big drops in click-through rates to search results because you had the entire answer
ChatGPT is a much better version of snippets
