An email from a young doctor in London on the clinical frontlines of COVID-19 care describes how senior academic colleagues, most working at home, are publishing research papers without sharing authorship with those actually delivering care to patients. Not kind, not ethical.

Just heard Jonathan Ashworth say the reason UK was late to lockdown was because we thought this epidemic was going to be like swine flu. This statement is patently ridiculous. The genome of SARS-CoV-2 was published in January and we knew then it was a coronavirus, not swine flu.

Chris Whitty is right, but these statements should have been more forcibly made in public before, not after, the government relaxed the lockdown before test and trace was ready.https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-53185386 …

Richard Horton says, "no single preventive measure is adequate to control transmission. What matters is combination prevention...hand washing, respiratory hygiene, mask wearing, physical distancing...avoidance of mass gatherings." Makes sense. https://www.newstatesman.com/2020/07/where-did-uk-go-wrong-coronavirus …

By July 1, 2020, over 10 million cases of SARS-CoV-2 and 500 000 deaths. It’s surely time for a more coordinated political, public health, medical, economic, and scientific global response. The only way is through an Emergency Special Session of the UNGA. In July. Leadership now.

Great thanks to Richard Horton, editor-in-chief of
