If these people truly think that by expressing an interest in acquainting myself more with local political dynamics in Guam, I was revealing I literally didn't know Guam existed, I sincerely hope they get the remedial help in basic verbal reasoning that they clearly urgently need

If your verbal reasoning abilities are truly so poor that you concluded by expressing an interest in acquainting myself more with local political dynamics in Guam, I was revealing that I had never heard of Guam before, then you should go wherever you can access remedial help

Do you really need me to cite evidence that I obviously knew that Guam existed, and knew the broad history of Guam, prior to this tweet? Or can you just accept this is an absurd inference from an expression of desire to acquaint myself more with local political dynamics in Guam?

In what sense am I not an "honest broker"? Please explain. Because you started this thread with the wildly dishonest premise that I was "ignorant" of the existence of Guam, when all I said was I wanted to acquaint myself more with the local political/cultural dynamics in Guam

Read this item on Guam being readied as the militarized focal point of the US "Indo-Pacific strategy," and how pledges by military officials that residents should not be "alarmed" is paradoxically cause for alarm

Curious online trend. You can make an innocuous statement of fact, like "there are no direct flights from the continental US to Guam," and people will assume in making that statement you're asserting a conspiracy. Then they'll try to refute the conspiracy no one asserted

Hi, Michael. The frequency of direct flights are scheduled by demand. For example, I live in Nova Scotia, & I've literally never taken a direct flight anywhere, even to the UK & Spain, without stopping at Toronto first, in the opposite direction. It's efficiency, not conspiracy.

There are direct flights from LA to Sydney, which is a longer distance than LA to Guam. What point are you even trying to make? Is it somehow a crazy suggestion that the lack of direct routes to Guam from the continental US contributes to its obscurity for most Americans?

On the very rare occasions when Guam comes up in the media, it's usually coupled with a lament that most Americans are exceedingly unfamiliar with Guam. Most of the time I have a sense of why/how things are controversial on Twitter -- but this one's a real head-scratcher, lol

I've been through some weird Twitter blowups, but this might be the weirdest. I'm being told I didn't know Guam existed because I expressed interest in acquainting myself more with local political/cultural dynamics, and now this is being spun as why we should all revere "experts"

Are you seriously so delusional that you genuinely think you're informing me of something I didn't already know: that Guam is a US territory? Did you see that I referred to it as a "US overseas territory" in the tweet you're responding to?

No, I said "acquaint myself more" with Guam. Namely the "local political/cultural dynamics." At least you've revealed that you blatantly misread the tweet, which helps explain your ridiculous reaction.

I'm envious. What percentage of Americans do you think have been to Guam? Do you really need me to cite evidence that I obviously knew Guam existed, or can you accept that's a ridiculous inference? And I've traveled extensively in 49 states, since you're apparently so interested

Do you want to join me in surveying a random sample of Americans to gauge their level of familiarity with Guam, and then we can judge whether it'd be reasonable to say that Guam is an "obscure" place to most Americans?

It's wild how a guy with "Esq" in his Twitter handle would have such poor verbal reasoning abilities that he'd honestly conclude that by expressing a desire to learn more about the local political/cultural dynamics in Guam, I was revealing that I did not know Guam existed

Who are you even arguing with? I said nothing at all about the US obligation to defend Guam, or lack thereof. Does this mean you agree that Guam is an obscure place to most Americans, which is the thing I actually did say?

Honestly wouldn't have predicted that "most Americans likely do not have a high degree of familiarity with the remote overseas territory of Guam" would be a take that'd trigger huge explosions of anger and denial, but you never know what'll set off the brilliant minds of Twitter

None of these facts contradict that Guam is an obscure place to the vast majority of Americans, considering it's thousands of miles away from the continental US. What percentage of Americans do you think have a high level of familiarity with Guam?
