This ruling may well be more consequential than the gun law ruling, but it doesn't touch on any Culture War flashpoints, so will be largely ignored

Today the conservative majority on the Supreme Court once again boldly protected the Constitutional rights of all Americans by denying them the ability to obtain relief when government agents throw them in prison using interrogation tactics that violate the Constitution

Granted "woke" and "anti-woke" are nebulous concepts but there have long been arguments for reducing mass incarceration that don't hinge on the kind of identity-first mantras associated with "wokism." Since 2020 they've just been drowned out by Culture War

It was only around 2020 that criminal justice reform became reflexively coded as "woke" and the Culture War subsumed everything again. In the preceding 10 or 15 years, some of the most effective advocates for reducing mass incarceration were conservatives and libertarians!

Ever since "the police" became the #1 culture war issue, conservatives have been less and less willing to acknowledge the obvious truth that US law enforcement is a ridiculous patchwork of turf battles, corruption, political self-dealing, and yes, "wasteful government spending"

It’s true, they’ve been worse than useless. Just another prong of the pro-war consensus. Underscores the superficiality of fashioning a political identity 100% around the latest culture war nonsense.

Former leader of UKIP who now heads some idiotic "Anti-Woke" movement in the UK. This episode has helpfully exposed the utter shallowness of so many people whose entire worldview is organized around trivial culture war nonsense

What bizarre logic. @mtracey is either very odd or is in the pay of the Kremlin. 1) a no fly zone does not = nuclear war 2) does he suggest Ukrainians shouldn’t defend their homes and country and that we should all capitulate? Truly, very odd. twitter.com/mtracey/status…

We're potentially teetering on the edge of WWIII and this is what you're focused on? Some nonsense Culture War "messaging" bill? What the hell is wrong with you

Abortion is a fundamental right. Women’s decisions over women’s health care belong to women, not to extremist right-wing legislatures. Today, the Senate will vote on moving forward on the Women's Health Protection Act to protect abortion rights.

These recurring culture war blow-ups over "banned books" at school libraries seems bizarrely anachronistic. Do people really think that eliminating library books is going to prevent a kid in 2021 from being exposed to purportedly corrupting ideas?

LA County trended GOP in 2020 so don't try to argue that it would've been intrinsically impossible for a Republican to win an off-year state election in CA. This became less possible because a blinkered talk radio personality made the race a referendum on the national Culture War

Yeah, if it was just some sort of physical or strategic decision to withdraw, no one would've found it that remarkable. The dubious "mental health" framing is what turned it into a hot-button Culture War issue, prompting comically disproportionate praise, as well as backlash

is this about mental health? from my understanding her bout with the "twisties" sounds like a physical ailment akin to vertigo. if so, why the focus on her mental state?

Then there's also the fact that a majority of states in are run by GOP Governors, therefore a majority of state vaccination programs are run by GOP Governors, all of whom are unanimous in their pro-vaccine views. So what's that fake narrative about? As usual, a Culture War cudgel

Today I learned that lots of people become psychopathically furious if you present data that indicates pure partisan affiliation is not the sole determinant of a US county's vaccination rate. This is your mind on Culture War delirium

Funny how "facts that are inconvenient to my over-simplified Culture War grievance narrative" get smugly reduced to "cherry-picking." Don't worry RadioFreeTom, you can still spend all day screaming into the void about Fox News and Trump or whatever. Good use of time
Quote Tweet
No, not "some," @mtracey. You cherry-picked an outlier in KY, and compared it to a MA county five times large with drastically lower rates of infection and test positivity. Have I mentioned you're bad at this? Have you considered taking some courses, maybe? /1 twitter.com/mtracey/status…

I'm really sorry that certain "red counties" having a substantially higher vaccination rate than certain "blue counties" isn't a finding that satiates your twisted Culture War bloodlust, but I'm sure you can easily obtain that gratification elsewhere

Do you think berating vaccine-resistant segments of the population with "fuck your feelings"-style insults will convince them to get vaccinated? Do you actually want them to get vaccinated, or do you just want another cudgel in your interminable, petty little Culture War

I wore a mask this entire time with no issues, up until the point that I was fully vaccinated. Always found the Culture War re: mask-wearing asinine. But now all the relevant mandates (corporate + state) have been rescinded and many people's behavior hasn't changed. Worth noting

Republican elected officials are so obsessed with virtue-signaling as more fanatically "pro-Israel" than even many Israelis because it allows them to wage a proxy domestic Culture War against the likes of AOC, Omar, etc.

Watching this House Foreign Affairs cmite hearing on FY22 budget, you'd think Israel was the biggest and most important country in the world. There's justified criticism of media for excessive coverage of the conflict, but my god, these Reps seem to think little else is important
