In 9 days, tens of thousands of Delawareans who just lost their jobs won't have the money to pay rent, mortgages, loans, and utility bills. And you're worried about matchmaking startups with venture capitalists. Who are you fighting for?

In light of business closures and the stay-at-home order, we need Governor Carney to protect Delawareans from the economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic. We need a moratorium on rent, mortgage, utility, and loan payments. We need to house the homeless.

It’s almost like Steve “Foreclosure King” Mnuchin wants another 36,000 of us to default on our mortgages so he and his buds can make another fortune.

Suspend rent payments. Suspend mortgage payments. Suspend utility payments. Suspend debt payments. And do it now. It’s better to act quickly than build some perfectly targeted package that comes too late.

This number doesn't even include people who were self-employed, gig workers, or freelancers who don't currently qualify for unemployment benefits. How on earth are we expecting people to pay rent, mortgages, loans, and bills in 6 days?

For the fourth month in a row, historic numbers of people were unable to pay for housing. Working people will be forced out of their homes and real estate speculators will gobble up properties like 2008. Cancel rent and mortgages. Guarantee housing as a right.

9 days. That’s how long we have until the vast majority of us will need to pay rent, mortgages, and other major bills. Send cash payments of at least $2,000 NOW and suspend payments on rent, mortgages, loans, and utilities. We can do this. We must do this.

  11. Mar 30

We're 2 days from major bills being due. Many Delawareans haven't yet received any relief and they won't be able to make these payments. Without a moratorium on rent, mortgages, loans, and utilities we may just delay evictions until the end of the state of emergency.

Banks are trying 2008 again with *commercial* mortgage-backed securities this time. Thankfully, there's nothing happening in our current reality that may cause office buildings, apartment complexes, or retail centers to be unable to pay their mortgages...

If doesn’t cancel rent and mortgages, attempts at flattening the curve will be undermined by people continuing to work bc they fear their bills. It will drive ppl now unemployed to seek unsafe jobs in the midst of this. Failing to makes us less safe.

Can't pay rent without any income. Call your Representative. Tell them what you're dealing with. Demand they cosponsor the Rent & Mortgage Cancellation Act.

No one said there couldn't be compensation for rent or mortgages that aren't paid, Naveed. You started this conversation by saying creating a rewards system for charitable landlords would be better than a moratorium and that just isn't true.

Great question! Right now, I support a canceling rent and mortgages and banning all evictions and foreclosures due to the pandemic. My platform also includes all of this that can't fit in a tweet:

I've made the same call for mortgage payments, too. We need to ensure people don't end up without housing or with evictions/foreclosures on their records that will impair their ability to get housing again. There are so many ways this could have been avoided.
