Folks please realize that this is not a "new normal," it is only the early stages of climate breakdown which is a steady progression following inexorably the laws of physics. Only way out: leave fossil fuels

I keep hearing talking heads saying this is "the new normal." STOP SAYING THIS. It is not a new normal. Global temperatures continue to rise because humanity continues to burn fossil fuels. Everything we are experiencing now will keep getting MUCH worse UNTIL WE END FOSSIL FUELS.

The one thing everyone needs to know about climate breakdown is that this is not "a new normal." There's no ceiling. It will simply keep getting worse, and worse, until we stop emitting. The 2nd: it's essentially permanent. We need massive climate mobilization.

This is NOT the "new normal." In fact it's far worse. Climate breakdown is a ramp we're on which will get continuously more catastrophic the more fossil fuel we burn and the more forest we kill. This is just the beginning. I am genuinely, deeply sorry. I don't make the rules.

That we're on an escalator should be very obvious, but I still see articles on "navigating change" and the phrase "new normal" pop up enough that I'm not sure it is. Even prominent scientists until recently used the phrase "new normal," probably because it makes a good soundbite.

This is not "the new normal." Hurricane intensification and other climate impacts will get even worse until we stop burning fossil fuel.

Remember, this isn't the "new normal." More fossil fuel means *even more* extreme heat. It's a law of physics - it doesn't care if we "believe in it" or not!

In latest forecast update, @NWSLosAngeles pushes temperature forecast *even higher* for Los Angeles region tomorrow. All-time high temperatures now in jeopardy, not just daily/monthly values. 105 -115+ degrees now likely across (nearly) entire LA metro!! #CAwx #CAfire #LAheat

It has been heatwave after heatwave. A 118°F (48°C) blast almost killed my avocado tree. Even though I watered it deeply that morning. And it's NOT the new normal. Not yet. I spent half the month in the blessedly cool (for now) High Sierra, walking away from Burning Yosemite.

It's super important to remember that things get worse the hotter humanity allows the planet to get. It's not an on or off switch. So please don't give up, keep fighting. No matter how bad it gets it can still get worse. There is NO "new normal" 😬 (until fossil fuel is gone)

That might be true in the intensity context of climate disasters experienced in 2020, but not in the intensity context of 2030 or 2040. We have not reached anything approximating a "new normal" yet
