One word in the english language that's converted and congealed so much that I cannot handle it: "Sick" used as a term for "good/awesome/badass". Believe me, "sick" is anything but. So "SICK" (in the literal sense) of hearing that one piece of "stoopid slang" #linguistics

This is what baffles me in #linguistics. The claim that dšṛt from Ancient Egyptian and desert in modern English are unrelated. This is just too much to digest for a layperson. The probability of 2 separate civ's arriving at same word independently afaik is infinitesimal.
