The Anthony Veasna So essay “Baby Yeah” in ’s BAE is just incredible, beautiful and heartbreaking and has inspired me, among other things, to start listening to Pavement again. As others have been saying, this whole anthology is just off the charts amazing.

Anthony Veasna So's Afterparties explores what it means to be Cambodian.
Through a collection of short stories, So reclaims the complexity of words like “diaspora” and “refugee” and “survivor.”and shows us how we can only know ourselves through our community.

There’s a kind of Sisyphean irony throughout these stories, but the absurdity of the moment doesn’t deter the characters.
Update: down to 8 books! Finished off “Afterparties” by Anthony Veasna So. This book was made up of a collection of short stories that reflect generational trauma through the lens of Cambodian-Americans in California. Good read—3stars from me!

People like to say that the best advice they can give to writers is to read a lot. And that's true, of course. But you shouldn't just read #literature. You should read life. Read movies, and art, and people. Read everything around you, very critically.
