Approximately 50% of the US population does not have adequate magnesium intake. Magnesium is required by enzymes to convert vitamin D3 into the active steroid hormone that regulates over 5% of the protein-encoding human genome! https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/02/180226122548.htm …

Large study including over 66,000 men and women found that for every 100 mg decrease in magnesium intake there was a 24% increase in pancreatic cancer independent of age, body mass, and gender. ~45% of the US population has insufficient magnesium intake. https://www.nature.com/articles/bjc2015382 …

Almost 50% of the US has an inadequate intake of dietary magnesium. Supplementation with 800 mg/day of magnesium improved arterial compliance in patients with heart failure. Arterial compliance is ability of the heart to respond favorably under stress. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16470086/

Higher potassium and magnesium intake – not lower sodium – cuts heart disease risk. Higher potassium intake (3g/day) decreased risk of heart disease by 25%, and higher magnesium intake (320 mg/day) decreased risk by 34%. Decreasing sodium had no effect. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/0091743575900377 …

A small study found that children with ADHD, given both vitamin D (50,000 IU/week) plus magnesium (6 mg/kg/day) supplements for 8 weeks, had fewer emotional, conduct, and peer problems, as well as improved prosocial scores, versus children given a placebo. https://bmcpediatr.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12887-021-02631-1 …

Magnesium is at the center of the chlorophyll molecule which gives plants their green color so it is high in dark leafy greens. Magnesium is also high in many nuts and some fish like mackerel. The RDA for adult men is 400 mg/day and 310 mg/day for women. https://lpi.oregonstate.edu/mic/minerals/magnesium …

It's important to mention that vitamin D and magnesium deficiencies are generally prevalent (at a population level), but also specifically prevalent in children with ADHD. https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/1060028018759471 …

↑ magnesium = ↓ pancreatic cancer (for clarity, since I see some confusion in the comments)
-
In this case, magnesium threonate was used but I have said that magnesium is at the center of chlorophyll (gives plants green pigment).

Another interesting finding from this study is that magnesium supplement use did not modify the findings suggesting that the food matrix may be important for the proper absorption of magnesium. RDA for men is ~400 mg/day. Leafy greens and nuts are a great source of magnesium.
-
I don't think that magnesium threonate is the smoking gun for BBB health. I think it's good but inhibiting the transport of DHA into the brain (via Mfsd2a) totally breaks down the BBB.
-
Some of the best dietary sources of magnesium are dark leafy greens and nuts (also my favorites!). Men need around 400 mg/day.
-
Nuts are a great source of magnesium but the recommended daily intake for males is 400 mg/day. Dark leafy greens are another healthy source of dietary magnesium.
-
That has not been directly studied but getting the RDA for your gender is a good start. Males require about 400 mg/day. I prefer to get most of my magnesium through food but I also take 125 mg of magnesium glycinate as well.
