The first paper on SciPy, after 19 years - feels so good to finally see this published! Credit goes to all SciPy contributors over all those years, amazing team effort! And thanks to Nature Methods for making it open access!

Is there a technical podcast (or audiobook or anything else to *listen* to) that teaches ML, data science, or statistics without visual aid?

I made an illustration for my class of why you need separate validation and training sets and I'm quite happy with it. Has anyone illustrated this similarly before?

This is a nice example of Simpson's paradox: cancer mortality rates are decreasing in each age group, but increasing overall.

The fundamental law of data science & AI: "Your predictions are only as good as your data." For every fancy algorithm you devise, there's some dude with a wagon full of phones running game on you.

I combined the content from my previous "Intermediate Streamlit" article plus some new notes I'd taken into my own "Streamlitopedia". If you're using , maybe there's something helpful in here for you.

The way we talk about data science and focus so much on methods, we actually incentivize working with *bad* data, rather than spending the time to collect good data and then use easy methods with it

The 1986 classic 'Parallel Distributed Processing' uses the term 'threshold function' instead of 'rectified linear unit'. I prefer the 1986 version :)

While we’re on the topic of how women have to behave in hotels to protect themselves, it might be time to revisit this thread. Until someone has tried to drug you, hurt you, rape you, follow you to your room, or convince you to sleep with them, keep your thoughts to yourself.

So far coronavirus is less lethal than the flu, which kills 10-25,000 Americans a year. Yet airlines suspend routes, countries bar people traveling from China. What they are responding to in part is the lack of trust, transparency, and accountability in China's system.

Great news, everyone! Pack up your serverless and microservices, we've finally made it all the way around the horn and are headed back to databases and monoliths!

My egotistical post-doc advisor went around bad mouthing to my peers when I left and told people that I was “chicken shit”. I hear that during grad student recruiting he has the gall to take credit for my transition to industry as if he were the reason for my success. 😤
