My suggestion would be to require IRCv3, and even dedicate a team of devs to improve the v3 specs. This fits in perfectly with Mozilla's mission for a better web for all. It's the same reason having Firefox is so important. Please don't give up on open communication.

Improving IRC would be difficult without violating its standards, and even then, client support would be limited. Better to switch to a Free solution like

Why should they fix something that has already far better open source alternatives like mattermost? Let IRC die, it had a long and happy life already.
