Big day for iPhone 14 Pro shooters.
Halide’s new ability to shoot quick, processed 48MP JPGs (or HEICs) is surprisingly useful, but a quick 48/12MP toggle has been a dream for me most of all.

I was skeptical about Apple’s claimed improvements, but the iPhone 14 Pro’s 3× (~77mm) telephoto camera is definitely better, too.
What a lovely lens. The tighter field of view forces one to be creative - to find a little visual poetry hidden in plain sight.

Photoshop lost its ability to simply share a version of a doc via AirDrop, Messages, etc. - instead we now get this when you press ‘share’:

… now I can’t do the most essential parts of my workflow; *sharing and saving* - without running into this.
What’s worse, my previous workflow of a quick share to my device via AirDrop is just gone forever. In its place? File saving. To the cloud. in plain language: this sucks

Dynamic Island definitely wasn’t a solo effort. The industrial design, hardware, and software teams all worked in concert to design and build it. We worked together in an intensely collaborative process over years to make it happen, the only way to make a idea like this possible.

Folks. When apps minimize into the Dynamic Island when dismissed, they drop into the island differently based on the physics of your “throw”…!
Toss the app straight up, and it’s a normal bounce. But throw a curveball, and the opposite side bulges out to catch.
I LOVE THIS 100%

I am blown away by the new 48MP camera. It renders unlike anything I have ever shot on a phone before. It’s absolutely gorgeous. I am in heaven.

The great review of iPhone 14 Pro took a (literal) close look at the animations on a pixel level. Incredible.

Mind you, 48MP is almost absurd. I find 40+MP overkill on my big Sony cameras. It should be opt-in, not default for every photo of a receipt, nude or cute dog pic.
I’d love a middle-of-the-road binned 24MP RAW trading some quality for speed. We’ll see what we can do.

Even though the 14 Pro has a 48MP camera, I don’t expect myself or most users to really capture 48MP shots, mostly because capturing a 48MP RAW takes 3-4 seconds (!).
We’re researching options, and adding quick binning+format toggles to to make this a bit easier.

Here’s our early look at iPhone 14 Pro’s camera hardware changes. Some cool discoveries:
- the Main camera doesn’t focus as close as the previous ones (expect more “macro switching”);
- huge leaps in ISO sensitivity;

Even non-tech-y people see the Dynamic Island UI and are wowed. Why? Objects are behaving with an impeccable sense of physicality.
Scrolling on iPhone 1 was magic because it felt like touching a real surface with your finger. This is like playing with liquid. Incredible work.

Torn between iPhone 14 Pro silver v. black. After seeing it in person, I saw that Space Black is really black, not grey. It’s gorgeous.
But… after 12 years of black iPhones, I went silver with 13 Pro and I love it. The metallic edges 👌
I want a black back and silver bezels.
