When I listen to President Trump vilifying immigrants as criminals, I can’t stop thinking about where this kind of narrative has ended in the past — including my mother’s experience as a refugee from Nazi Germany. I never thought I’d hear these words from the U.S. Capitol.

Cop convicted of planting crack on innocent couple. Given probation. Judge “swayed by how he lost his job, pension, & health.” In other words, the same consequences for people I represent jailed on bail *before conviction* that no judge ever cares about.

Something about the ritual of people throughout the state of Iowa gathering in gyms and community centers to caucus makes me think of Shirley Jackson’s short story “The Lottery.” 🙃

It’s only right that a process that ends in the electoral college starts out this goofy.

MoCo schools officially became integrated in 1960—six years after Brown v. Board of Education—and the fight over our de facto segregated schools today is part of that legacy.

So a few things: 1) It's maybe not necessary to use a SWAT team to enter an unoccupied CBD store 2) Using the battering ram on the glass part of the door is also probably not necessary 3) Watch your step

DNC really waited for the Black and Brown candidates to drop out and then changed up the rules so a billionaire could stop and frisk his way to the debate stage. You expect to see it.

It turns out that governing a settler-colonialist slave society of 4 million people is different from governing a multiracial democracy of 330 million people and maybe requires different institutions? IDK just a thought

Stacey Abrams says she intends to run for/be President one day. Do you think the country will...elect a black woman [president in next 20 years]. Abrams: Yes Do you think they'll elect you? Abrams: Yes. That's my plan. And I'm very pragmatic.

“There’s only so much you can do within the paradigm of incarceration. A prison may or may not be humane, but it will always be dehumanizing. The isolation, the lack of liberty — the separation from family and community — are antithetical to human life. “ in

They did this for a reason. Not necessarily to give Trump ultimate power, though Republicans are okay with that. It’s about the fact that he was caught manipulating an election, something that they too would like to continue doing without interruption.

I've said it before, but a reminder. Coercing foreign governments to harass your political opponents is a mid-point for an authoritarian who can't yet control domestic law enforcement. The final real goal is to get domestic law enforcement to target political enemies at his will.
