Buttigieg also spoke about Trump supporters & the idea that ppl on the coasts “have trouble believing that Trump voters actually exist.” Trump supporters, he said, are "just human beings making choices on their situations, sometimes their biases & we need to talk through them."https://twitter.com/merica/status/1111441312354430976 …

Your attitude is the same attitude that exists among some, not all, rural citizens, but is not a fair representation of either region.. It is, however, an attitude that, regardless of whomever holds it, we should get over.
-
Point me in the direction of a few local, rural area papers that ran “we sat down with HRC voters in urban coffee shops to see how they feel” stories. Because I could find a hundred “small town diner Trump voter” stories in the NYT.
-
Rural voters take vacations in NYC bc they love it. I grew up in rural America, have friends there but live in Metro area. Many caring people in both regions respect the other, tho vote differently. Hatred is a Trump, not voter, phenomenon. Lets build on commonality, not hate
-
I don’t have commonality with someone who thinks it’s ok to take away healthcare and lock kids in cages. I’m not saying rural folks don’t like NYC, I’m saying they’re not constantly lectured about caring about us like we’re lectured about caring about them (even though most do).
-
How do u know rural Americans believe its ok to lock people in cages?Thats ur assumption. Health care is a question of whether its individually financed by user, or by society. Its a debate worth having, but claiming you're morally superior for taking one side is why Trump won.
-
I didn’t say rural Americans think it’s ok to lock kids in cages. I said I don’t have anything in common with those that think it’s ok. It’s not worth the time and effort to find common ground. And, yes, I can claim moral superiority.
-
U implied that rural Americans think it’s ok. If I misread u, I’m Sorry.
-
I think there’s two separate ideas. One is that coastal Americans need to put in effort to understand rural Americans. The other is that Democrats need to reach out to Trump voters. The latter, to me, is a waste of time. The former is unfair because 1- I think we do take them...

Yes keep this attitude and you will lose again. Thank God for electoral college our founders were genius.
-
This is my exact point. “Kiss our asses or lose”. It’s bullshit and I’m over it.
-
Exactly- to hell with the heartland with their God and Country attitude!! No compromise
-
This. But not sarcastically.
-
I’m with you Scrody staying pure is more important than winning elections.
-
Not mutually exclusive, Bob.
-
We will see now that Biden has been taken out I’m much more confident. An 80 year old communist is next up
-
It’s funny how you claim elections should be won on ideas, and then spout this nonsense. Shows you’re not arguing in good faith and are exactly the person I’m tired of pandering to.

You every wonder where that chicken you ate for dinner comes from? Our the wheat to make the bread in your sandwich? Or that thinly sliced turkey?pic.twitter.com/0AQjRlVHwK
-
Yes, we agree. Metro areas pay a lot of money for food, which keeps the heartland in business.
-
And, what exactly does rural America derive from the cities? Other than customers. We can survive much better without you, than you can without us. You’ll starve while we will do just fine.
-
Yes, I’m sure you can just go back to a barter system. Buy your homes, trucks, and tractors with wheat and cows. I’d be happy to stop paying your welfare every check. I’m sure farmers would do just fine without revenue, or subsidies paid by those of us who turn profits.
-
Dude. I’ll bet you I pay more in taxes in a year than you make in income in 5 years. My beach house didn’t get built using welfare.
-
A beach house in the heartland sounds awesome.
-
Like Bernie Sanders, I own more than one place. Unlike Bernie, I pay an effective federal tax rate of over 34% rather than the 15% he pays.
-
Um...cool?
