The rate at which the natural world is being destroyed by economic growth is 10s to 100s of times higher than the average over the past 10 million years. In state-corporate media, explosive truths are revealed, but carefully framed to keep them hidden.1/2

New 'holy-grail' pterosaur paper by Jean-Michel Mazin and Joane Pouech announcing a new ichnotaxon, Rhamphichnus. That's right: we finally have non-pterodactyloid pterosaur tracks, and textbooks need rewriting. Yes. (My of it below). Thread...

Tetrapods have tried to fly or glide NUMEROUS times. Even in dinosaurs it seems to have arisen several separated times within maniraptorans. Here are SOME examples of extinct and extinct gliders and flyers. Continuing with this series of sketches

Are the Australian bushfires caused by climate change? THREAD. A Canadian colleague emailed to ask if the Australian wildfires are “burning outside the natural range of variability?” There are good arguments that climate change is a strong driver of the current crisis. 1/19

This is a terrifying, cyclical nightmare. The Amazon, California, Australia... the locations change but the cycle of public outrage being met with government inaction is so predictable. The level of pressure being applied right now must be maintained.

Biologists have identified more than 500 species of living , belonging to 81 genera. I drew this tree to show the current understanding of primate relationships with the highest-level groupings within the order.

Incredible. Think of all of those videos with dogs who have long sticks in their mouths and can't figure out to turn them sideways to go between two posts. Well, what of male moose that have to travel through the forest with massive antlers? Here is the answer.
