BBC Director DG Tim Davie has emailed BBC staff: "There is no ban on attending Pride parades."

-
"If news and current affairs are participating in such events they must be mindful of ensuring that they do not get involved in matters which could be deemed political or controversial." Outside of news and current affairs, people can attend as private individuals.

so... basically go to pride but don’t stand up for trans people. still gross.
-
No. There is nothing political or controversial about support for trans people, so that is perfectly acceptable.

don't think it's out to everyone yet tbh still waiting on the mail coming to my inbox

Kate can you explain. If someone in news holds an opinion they are supposed to pretend they don’t hold the opinion right? How does that make them impartial? Surely it just makes them a liar?

Let's hope this is true. But clearly someone made a decision yesterday to classify pride as 'contentious', as staff in Manchester were told exactly that by bosses due to the "trans issue". There's no wiggle room, they need to apologise.

Seems remarkably disconnected from any working knowledge of what Pride is about and why it was established.

So L aura Kuenssberg can no longer act as a mouthpiece for the Tories then since that is political.

Yes - she will be in breach of these guidelines.....

Not sure this is quite the helpful clarification Tim Davie thinks it is. If a trans person attends a Pride event, does that suddenly make it contested or politicised? A pacifist might say remembrance events are politicised. Is wanting an end to child hunger a contested idea?
-
Considering the government has influence over every aspect of the country and it's residents, isn't everything political
